I would like to say a big thank you to Arriva for:
Clean and modern buses, educated and informed drivers, visual and audible destination information, bus time-table information at each stop, comfortable seating, bells within the reach of every passenger, cheap bus rates, air-conditioning.
Arriva should also be thanked for direct buses from the airport, giving disabled persons and mothers with children the chance of using public transport with ease and comfort, and for running till 11pm instead of 9pm.
The older buses were usually dirty, uncomfortable and unbearable in the summer heat. Some of the drivers were shabbily dressed and often very rude – and they seemed to have no time-table.
Arriva made a great effort to continue being of service to all passengers when about 180 drivers failed to report for work in the first week.
This was one of the several obstacles it encountered, so I am not surprised it had so many problems. Some of the old drivers put spokes in its wheels.
One must admit that Arriva’s was a modern transport service as good as in any other country such as England and Italy. In fact, the service was better than in some parts of the UK. Even the bus fare was very good.
Now that Arriva has left, let us hope we will not end up with a service of a lower standard.
It is only fair to give credit where credit is due – so, thank you again, Arriva.
