PAVI Depiro and Caffe Moak Luxol will contest the final of the women’s St James Hospital KO competition this season.

Depiro continued with their good run after eliminating the misfiring Hibs.

The opening quarter saw both teams exchanging the lead but it was Hibs who finished 13-10 ahead. Three consecutive baskets saw Depiro 16-13 in front and they did well to administer that lead and change ends 23-19 ahead.

Hibernians reduced the deficit to a single point, 25-24, as play resumed after the break. However, they failed to contain Depiro’s reaction who potted the next 14 points – 39-24.

The Paola girls halted the rot but the damage was already done as Depiro won the tie 65-41 to book their place in the final.

Luxol, meanwhile, disposed of league leaders Athleta to continue with their revival after a rather shaky start to the season.

Luxol finished the first quarter with a 20-10 lead. With Athleta unable to match their opponents’ fine play, Luxol continued to pull further away and at half-time the score read 36-15 in their favour.

Forward Emma Moore, for-merly of Luxol, was injured but Athleta still succeeded in reducing the gap even though Luxol held a comfortable 45-31 lead for the final ten minutes. Hard as they tried, Athleta were unable to deny Luxol who won it 57-46.

MBA Shield final: Sunday, 16.30 Depiro vs Athleta.
