The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club (VLTC) recently held its annual Junior Open.

This ranking event, played under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation, attracted the participation of a good number of promising young players who competed in a series of events ranging from U-10 to U-16.

For the third year running the competition was sponsored by audit and consulting firm NexiaBT, of San Ġwann.

The boys’ U-16 title was won by Miguel Galea. In the final he beat Zak Ciappara 6-0, 6-1.

Katrina Sammut won the U-16 competition for girls after having the better of Maria Giorgia Farrugia Sacco 6-1, 6-1 in the title match.

In the U-14 boys’ category, Liam Delicata staved off the stern challenge offered by Jacobo Pesce 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 and in the girls Martina Demanuele beat Valerija Holom-jova 6-0, 6-0 to claim the title.

Delicata scored a double when he also emerged winner in the U-12 competition. Cheyene-Joyce Borg went on to carry the girls’ title in the same category.

Alex Degabriele and Emma Mallia were the winners of the respective boys and girls titles in the U-10 competitions.
