Sliema Aquatic Sports Club yesterday announced the signing of three new players who joined their squad ahead of the new season.

Alex Attard and Jurgen Borg joined from Sirens and goalkeeper Keith Schembri left Marsascala to return to Sliema.

Attard, 21, is an upcoming player who already forms part of the national team.

It is believed that the club from Għar id-Dud moved in early for Attard and managed to fend off interest from other clubs before securing the transfer.

Left-hander Borg, rejoins the club on loan, having once represented Sliema at junior level.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a long career with the team from St Paul’s Bay but decided that this was the right time for a new sporting challenge.

Schembri will once again be on the Sliema ranks after having previously served as an understudy to former Sliema goalkeeper Josie Cachia for a number of years. He joins Ryan Coleiro in the current goalkeeping set-up at the club.

The new Sliema signings follow the previously reported departure of five players from their fold, all to Valletta United.

David Abela, Daniel Paolella, Michael Spiteri Staines and Nicky Bonello Ghio all signed for the team from the capital on a season-long loan while Michael Cordina joined Valletta on a permanent basis.
