Honey Athleta maintained their unbeaten record in the women’s league after beating Hibs in an entertaining match while Cafe Moak Luxol jumped to second place in the standings following their win over Starlites Sports Experience.

In the main match of the weekend, Athleta were at full strength but Hibs sorely missed the services of playmaker Julia Scerri.

At the end of the first quarter, Athleta led 13-9 but midway through the second session Hibs forged 22-21 ahead only for the league leaders to dominate the last minutes before the break and change ends 31-23 in front.

Hibs started strongly in the third quarter but Athleta regrouped to open a ten-point lead, 38-28, before the last quarter got underway. Eleven points without reply put the issue beyond doubt with Athleta winning the match 57-37.

Luxol continued with their fine form of late to chalk up a fourth consecutive victory when having the better of Starlites.

Luxol opened a 31-24 lead but the match became more balanced after that until a 13-2 break for Luxol late on.

Those crucial points in the fourth quarter eventually paved the way for Luxol’s 60-45 win.

In another match, PAVI Depiro, parading their new foreigner Nola Taylor, were in complete control against Phoenix.

Depiro had the game wrapped up by half-time when they led 35-9.

With Phoenix unable to step up their game, Depiro continued to dictate matters for a comfortable 86-19 victory.

Standings: Athleta 10 (5-0), Luxol 9 (4-1), Hibs 8 (3-2), Depiro 7 (2-3), Starlites 6 (1-4), Phoenix 5 (0-5).
