An exhibition of paintings from the private collection of Mro Joseph Vella on the theme of the Nativity and the gifts of the Magi was recently inaugurated at Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo, adjacent to St George’s Basilica in Victoria. The paintings are mostly oil on canvas but also include a minute watercolour, oils on marble and tin and a 17th-century Russian icon.

During the inauguration, art critic Joe Camilleri gave an overview of the development of the subjects, while Gozo Minister Anton Refalo spoke of the importance his Ministry gives to art and culture.

The paintings are being displayed in the museum’s two audiovisual halls, in which an additional lighting system has just been installed to enhance its ability to host temporary exhibitions.

The museum is open all week (including Sundays) from 9.30am to 5pm. The exhibition will remain on display until the end of January.
