Dr Joseph De Giovanni was recently awarded the title of visiting external professor of the University during a ceremony held at the Medical School auditorium at Mater Dei Hospital.

Prof. Godfrey LaFerla, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, said Dr De Giovanni had distinguished himself in the field of paediatric cardiology and is highly respected both in Malta and abroad.

His contribution to this area of study includes regular contributions to journals and lectures. He also undertakes clinical trials and runs charity workshops in various parts of the world.

Dr LaFerla said that although Dr De Giovanni left Malta to follow a career abroad he always used his position to continue to help, support and promote the University and its Medical School.

Dr De Giovanni was awarded the National Order of Merit in 1994 for services rendered to Malta.
