In the spirit of Christmas and as a 'thank you' the Zone decided to meet representatives from key sectors in the country to whom the well-being of the general public depends on to a great extent.

Water:
How do we get water in our kitchen and bathroom taps? How safe is it, how clean is it, and who is responsible to ensure this? And what happens to our waste water?
The Zone meets some of the engineers, operations officers and lab workers who look after our water supply – one of the most essential necessities for our well-being.

Waste:
We rarely, if ever, think of what happens when we dispose of our garbage, whether it is a banana peel or something much larger, like a refrigerator, except perhaps when we are stuck in our cars behind a garbage truck that takes forever to move, not to mention the smell it produces.

After we dump our little (and sometimes not so little) black bag in front of our doors and carry on with our routines and our work, it becomes someone else’s responsibility.

Dealing with waste for a living is a job that carries a stigma. Many people look after our rubbish – collect, sort and recycle it in an environmentally safe way.
Meet some of the people who clean up after us - from those within the management and educational level to the people who sort waste and ensure that waste can be converted into something useful like energy.

Air traffic control:
Air traffic controllers ensure that airplanes take off and land safely. The Zone stepped into the air traffic control tower at Malta International Airport to meet air traffic controllers and other backstage professionals whose work is unique, highly demanding and very responsible.
