Signifying an exciting step in the history of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the publication La Borsa – The People, The Building, The History provides an insight into the intricate world of a multi-faceted business organisation which dates back 165 years.

In his foreword to the publication, Judge Giovanni Bonello says: “Since its inception, the Chamber has loomed impressively large on the horizons of governance, a force impossible to ignore and difficult to challenge.

It has consistently been a most influential prime mover on the social, financial and political scene.” The book is divided into five sections.

The first section brings together accounts by well-known historians Robert Micallef, John Consiglio and Vicki Ann Cremona, and the personal experiences of Alfred Zahra de Domenico and Michael Mallia.

Section two is entitled The Exchange Buildings, with an essay on ‘Modernity and Exchange’ by architect David Felice, accompanied by beautiful photography by David Pisani. It also includes two essays by Theresa Vella: ‘Before the Borsa on Strada Reale’ and ‘Sculptural Figures over La Borsa’.

The third section, Portrait Gallery of the Malta Chamber, includes an analytical appreciation by the late Emmanuel Fiorentino and Krystal Farrugia on portraits by eminent artists in the past century and a half.

The Malta Chamber Art Collection features in section four, with essays by Theresa Vella on the Vedute or Valletta paintings and by Charlene Vella on the modern art collection.

The fifth and final section of the book is a compilation of personal memoirs of past presidents and others.
