Former Nationalist general election candidate Hermann Schiavone has asked the party not to consider him for inclusion in the European Parliament candidate list, Times of Malta has learnt.

Dr Schiavone had been called to appear before the PN’s Candidates Commission, headed by former EU Commissioner Joe Borg.

But after discussing the matter with members of his family, Mr Schiavone informed the party that he was choosing not to contest the election.

When contacted, Dr Schiavone said that while he appreciated the trust shown in him, he said he had discussed the matter with his family and preferred serving the party in other ways.

Dr Schiavone had been banned by the party from contesting the general election in March, but was elected to the party’s executive last May.
