PAVI Depiro took revenge for their league defeat to Honey Athleta to advance to the semi-finals of the women’s Louis Borg Cup along with Caffe Moak Luxol. Hibs and Starlites Sports Experience are also in the last four after receiving a bye.

Depiro started pulling away midway through the first session of the first leg, potting seven points without reply as Athleta were finding it hard to conclude their attacks. Depiro raced to a 24-12 lead at half-time.

Athleta clicked into gear near the closing stages of the third quarter to start the last ten minutes 35-28 behind. They pulled back to 39-38 with four minutes left.

However, Athleta’s hopes of a comeback win were dashed as Depiro potted the last ten points of the match for a 48-39 victory.

Athleta looked a better team in Sunday’s second leg and changed ends 33-17 ahead.

Until the half-way mark of the third session Athleta were still on track to cancel their first-leg deficit but then Depiro reacted strongly to edge close to three points – 39-36.

Athleta were unable to sustain the pressure as Depiro looked the more composed side in the last quarter. They lost the tie by a single point (49-48) but prevailed 96-88 on aggregate.

As expected, Luxol had little difficult in surpassing the prelimi-nary round hurdle of the com-petition as they outclassed Petrus Phoenix Loyola 184-45 on aggregate.

Luxol made sure in the first match which they won 92-23 and the scoreline was almost repeated on Sunday as Loyola this time went down 22-92.
