Lovers of food and history recently enjoyed a Renaissance meal at the Valletta campus building.

The event was organised by the University’s Institute for Tourism, Travel and Culture as part of Discover University Open Week, and researched by Carmel Cassar, chairman of the Programme for Mediterranean Culinary Culture within the institute, and culinary researcher Noel Buttigieg.

The meal celebrated the cultural richness of the tastes, sights and sounds of the time by recreating an elitist culinary experience and giving an authentic account of the details as regards the culinary and ethnographic roots of the period.

The menu was based on what is considered to be the first modern cookbook by Bartolomeo Scappi.
