For the second consecutive year, Malta is taking part in the Litter Less campaign, in which young people aged 11 to 21 are invited to submit photos, videos and articles related to litter and the need to work for a cleaner environment.

The campaign aims to engage and educate young people on the issues of litter, encouraging them to make positive choices.

Participants will be offered opportunities to attend workshops, learn how to be young journalists, and at the same time, have a chance to win smartphones, cash prizes, camping kits and an educational trip abroad.

Students, members of youth groups and any young person aged 11 to 21 may take part in the campaign through the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) programme, which is run locally by Nature Trust.

Entries must be submited by March 31. They will be ajudicated by a national jury, and the winners then compete for an international YRE award.

The winners will receive their awards in June while their visits abroad will take place in November or December 2014.

Besides Malta, the campaign is running concurrently in 35 other countries thanks to a USD3.1 million (€2.3m) donation from the William Wrigley Jr Company Foundation.
