A group of 17 International Baccalaureate (IB) Sixth Formers from St Edward’s College, Cottonera, recently visited Strasbourg, France, to take part in Euroscola, in which students from 24 EU member states were given the chance to acquire first-hand experience of the way the European Parliament functions.

The students had the opportunity to discuss current global issues, with each participating school presenting its own views and coming up with possible solutions while maintaining an open-minded and diplomatic approach towards others.

They also experienced being an MEP for a day, engaging in the EU decision-making through debates, negotiations with their colleagues, voting and adopting resolutions on topical European issues.

This event has become an annual highlight in the college’s extracurricular activities and is actively promoted by the school, as it strongly believes in the value of active citizenship.

The group also travelled to Paris where they visited Notre Dame cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe, an exhibition at the Conciergerie and the Eiffel Tower.

These visits are an opportunity to actively demonstrate to the students the interdisciplinary aspect of learner formation. This is a fundamental aspect of the two-year study programme that St Edward’s College Sixth Form offers.

The group was accompanied and guided by the IB coordinator Dominique Inglott and teacher François Zammit.
