The Christmas season is a time during which many products are bought for children, the majority of these being toys.

The MCCAA has the following recommendations to help buyers make more informed and safer decisions:

• Look out for the CE mark. This shows that the product complies with European safety requirements.

• Look for labels that give age recommendations and use that as a guide (for example, not suitable for children under three years of age).

• Read the instructions for use and assembly carefully. These should be in English and/or Maltese. If appropriate, explain such instructions to the child.

• Make sure stuffed toys and cloth dolls have sturdy seams and adequately attached eyes and noses.

This is not an exhaustive list. If consumers have any doubts regarding the safety of a particular toy, they should get in touch with the authority for further clarification.
