A woman who was run over when a car reversed onto her has been awarded €9,467.47 in damages.
Carmen Borg told the court that on May 25, 2010 while she was near her home in Hamrun she saw Eric Zammit parking a car in front of her house.
She waited for the car to be parked and then started to cross the road. But Mr Zammit reversed his car onto her and hit her. She fell to the ground and had to undergo surgery for an injury to her hip.
Ms Borg said that she also had to undergo physiotherapy and pay for a maid to help her at her home. Before the accident she had been an active housewife and the principal carer for her seriously ill husband. But, as a result of her injuries, she could no longer carry out her normal routine.
Mr Zammit accepted that he was responsibile for the accident.
The court heard that Ms Borg has suffered a 15 per cent permanent disability.
Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco ruled that housework had an economic value and that he assessed the damages payable to Mrs Borg on the basis of the minimum wage.
