Rabat 0
Poiatti Qormi 1

The first half of this game produced a stalemate in midfield with rare goalmouth action save for a couple of half chances which Qormi created around the 21st minute.

Rabat spurned a chance when a penalty corner was awarded to them while Qormi won their first penalty corner on the stroke of half-time, the whistle sounding with neither team being able to score.

The game opened up in the second period and in the 40th minute Shawn Falzon missed a sitter for Rabat who failed to take advantage of a penalty corner awarded to them two minutes later.

Qormi reacted and Keith Calleja missed an opportunity to shoot them ahead two minutes later.

After both teams failed to avail themselves of a penalty corner, Qormi went ahead on 57 minutes when a Calleja hit into the D was deflected into the Rabat net off a defender.

Rabat immediately exerted territorial pressure but the Qormi defence held out to earn a hard- fought victory.

Sliema Hotsticks 0
Young Stars 3

This league encounter provided early end-to-end exchanges but both defences were alert and it was not before the ninth minute that Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner which was not availed of.

Mark Camilleri, of Young Stars, shot wide as a result of another penalty corner action and after a period of midfield play, Luke Borg Costanzi met a cross from the right and pushed it into the net to put Young Stars 1-0 up.

Hotsticks reacted and Young Stars’ defence cleared with difficulty after a melee in the D to hang on to their slender lead at the interval.

Six minutes into the second half, Young Stars won a penalty corner and Camilleri picked his spot to double his team’s advantage.

Hotsticks hit back and James Mizzi was called upon to effect two saves to keep his goal intact, the second instance responding to a flick from point-blank range.

Hotsticks continued to exert pressure with Young Stars intent on defending their lead and counter attack when the chance came.

A couple of inviting crosses were not snapped up by Hotsticks and when a minute from time Young Stars were awarded a penalty corner, Camilleri grabbed his second goal to give his team a 3-0 victory.
