Competing rabbits all vying for the coveted best-in-show title drove children crazy yesterday as the cute and fluffy creatures put on their best poses for the judges.

The level of cuteness rose as the biggest saw off the smallest and the fluffier breeds beat out the short-haired ones. The rest of them sat around in their cages being admired by visitors.

Children and their mothers were in awe at the variety on display while fathers were overheard saying the last thing they needed was another pet. From the Flemish Giants to the more humble looking but equally beautiful Mini Rex breeds with their velvety soft coats, the rabbits were on show at Mount Carmel Hospital in Attard for the annual Malta Rabbit Club Championship.

Breeders from across the island exhibited the very best they had to offer, with the quality of animals demonstrating their dedication to their pets.

Although not competing in the day’s judging, the most popular cages seemed to be those exhibiting eight-day-old bunnies huddled and asleep, blissfully unaware of the children desperate to grab hold of them.

Breeders were on hand to guide and give information on how best to look after rabbits.
