Student organisations are an ever-growing presence on campus during the academic year. Students’ participation is rising and social network use and improved marketing techniques have led in more awareness of what faculty and non-faculty-based organisations are up to.

This year, besides the well-established social policy meetings, the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) Culture and Entertainment office has also set up two new working groups – the Organisations’ Forum and the Cultural Sub-Committee.

The Organisations Forum aims to improve collaboration between KSU and all student organisations and also serves as a new platform for them to meet and pool their ideas.

In the meetings the organisations also give feedback to KSU, which acts as the central administrator for all culture-related events on campus, ensuring that their yearly events do not overlap. The meetings have led to a new collective approach to events that did not exist before, and is trying to overcome the competitive atmosphere of recent years.

The Culture Sub-Committee is made up of individual students, and ensures arts and student artists are better represented on and off campus.

One of the largest projects undertaken by the Organisations Forum is to upgrade the usual monotonous Christmas on Campus. It will try to transform the festive week into a multitude of separate charity events in which all student organisations and students can help raise money for L-Istrina and Dar tal-Providenza.

Each organisation has been assigned a separate day during December and is in charge of organising their own event with the aim of raising money. The events include a plant sale by Youths for the Environment (Y4TE), a movie marathon night by S-Cubed, and a baking marathon by Betapsi (psychology student association) among others.

Since every organisation is participating, something different will be going on at the University quadrangle every day of the month, which will hopefully encourage more students to get involved and maybe also attract the public.
