In San Ġwann, at 9.30am the other day, I noticed a traffic warden scrupulously examining the clocks in parked vehicles on the main road. No surprise there.

What was a surprise was the fact he was totally ignoring two vehicles parked on the zebra crossing, yes, right across it.

I approached him and said politely: “I don’t want to teach you your job but shouldn’t you do something about those cars parked on the zebra crossing?”

He completely ignored me (no surprise there either) but a Maltese gentleman who also commented on it to him found himself embroiled in a heated argument while the warden justified why they were so parked.

There is no justification! Tickets should have been issued. I have elderly friends who live in San Ġwann and find it treacherous to try and cross the road at all. The zebra crossing should be a safe place to cross. With cars parked there how can they see and be seen?

It seems many wardens have blinkers on and give tickets when it suits them. If you walk around San Ġwann, for example, you will find many traffic offences taking place that are much more serious than having the wrong time on the clock.

Yes, they are definitely blinkered. Or is there some other reason?
