Tennis Club Kordin (TCK) has invested around €71,000 in the installation of a photovoltaic array of 96 solar panels that can supply up to 80% of the club’s annual consumption of electricity. The 300-member strong TCK currently has four flood-lit tennis hard courts which account for most of the club’s energy consumption.

The array, partially funded under the European Regional Development Fund programme and national funds will be producing around 55,000kwh of electricity and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by a hefty 50 tons a year.

Both the Malta-EU Steering & Action Committee (MEUSAC) and the Government’s Planning and Priorities Coordination Department (PPCD) provided TCK with the required technical support during the project planning and application stage.

The solar panel array was formally inaugurated by the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds earlier this week.
