Malta will soon be issuing its waste management plan taking the country to 2020, Environment Minister Leo Brincat said.

He was addressing a meeting  on marine environment in Istanbul.

Mr Brincat said that the plan was being drawn up following an intensive consultation process.

The plan was aimed at guiding the country reduce generated waste, reach specific aims in recycling and reduce its dependence on landfills.

Malta, he said, was committed to continue strengthening sustainable development in the Mediterranean as agreed during the Rio +20.
