Nearly 30,000 people aged 12 and above were involved in regular voluntary work last year, National Statistics Office figures showed.

To mark the International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development, the NSO said the majority dedicated their time to a voluntary organisation, while less than one per cent did informal work, such as helping out a neighbour or relative.

Most people doing formal voluntary work were aged 25- 49, while informal voluntary work was more popular among people aged 50-64.
