Two-thirds of Maltese diabetics who randomly checked their glucose level failed to keep it under control, a recent exercise has shown.

More than 300 people took advantage of free glucose monitoring in a recent event to mark World Diabetes Day, with the majority aged between 51 and 75.

Nineteen said they were diabetic but only 35 per cent of these had their condition under full control. A total of 23 people were sent for a medical follow-up.

Organised by ATG Co. Ltd and the Malta Diabetes Association, the event took place at Daniel’s Shopping Complex, in Ħamrun.
