Gozo College’s Sir Michelangelo Refalo Higher Secondary was recently awarded the Directorate for Educational Services Health and Safety Unit’s Health and Safety Education Best Practice Award to recognise its outstanding efforts to promote health and safety educational issues.

The award was presented by School Resources Department service manager Kenneth Scicluna to the Gozitan Sixth Form’s health and safety teachers, Andrew Dimech and Charles Daniel Saliba.

During the past academic year, Mr Dimech and Mr Saliba organised talks by guest speakers on issues such as internet and mobile scams; plastic money and fraud; the responsibilities involved with loans, debit cards and credit cards; road safety; drug and alcohol problems; and internet safety and social media threats. The talks served as an eye-opener not only for students but also for parents and teachers.

The Sixth Form, as well as Sannat and Xewkija primary schools also received the Health and Safety School Certificate of Merit for reaching a pre-set level of preparedness for healthy and safe environments.
