Maltese artist Silvana Mallia recently launched Firecrafted, her own brand of handmade jewellery, featuring six collections in fine silver and bronze.
The Bizzilla silver collection emulates Maltese lace, while even more delicate are the pendants of the artist’s Leaves collection.
The bronze Etruria, on the other hand, is reminiscent of Etruscan culture and although it features some intricate details, it is presented as less refined and not too polished, to maintain the ancient feel.
History, culture and nature are also well accompanied by colour throughout the collections, with enhancements of semi-precious stones, crystals and silk ribbon. Mallia also creates her pieces in an unusual way for this trade.
Using precious metal or an alloy-particles mix with an organic binder to make it pliable, she models each piece into the desired shape.
As the brand name suggests, part of the creation process is then to fuse the metal at high temperatures – a process known as sintering – when the binder burns away completely, leaving the pure metal.
All Firecrafted jewellery pieces are, for the most part, limited-edition items or even one-off, exclusive pieces. To view the collections and for online orders, visit www.firecrafted.com.
