Mexx Malta is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month.

In 2012, internationally renowned Dutch fashion brand Mexx, inspired by Candy Dulfer’s combination of musical talent and personality, approached the jazz saxophonis to collaborate with it.

The result was a unique friendship and output of creativity that bring to life the thinking behind the new Mexx Real Life XX brand vision: being real rather than perfect.

As well as creating music with Mexx, Dulfer was keen to work with the brand to create a capsule collection inspired by her own lifestyle.

Tamara van Kampen, who previously worked for Dutch designers Puck and Hans and has been the general manager of the Azzurro Group in Amsterdam for a number of years, has extensive experience in both the technical aspects and trends in the fashion industry, also allowing her to make a major contribution to this collection’s style.

The Mexx by Candy Dulfer look is all about comfort and glamour – a style that is the perfect match for Mexx but is also importantly close to Dulfer and Van Kampen’s hearts. The pair worked closely with the help of a small, select team at Mexx to design each individual item themselves, right down to the smallest details.

I travel a lot and I work hard. So I think it’s important for my clothes to reflect my personality, without sacrificing comfort

Dulfer’s personal style is all over the collection. Her beloved leopard prints, rock ’n’ roll, a splash of glitter with luxurious touches here and there and comfort with a kick: these are the ingredients that make up her capsule collection.

“I travel a lot and I work hard. So I think it’s important for my clothes to reflect my personality, without sacrificing comfort.”

To achieve an androgynous look, mix a tuxedo jacket with matching trousers, or go for a glamorous look with a structured top and sequin leopard-print shorts.

Girly items twinkle sweetly alongside leather-look pieces, such as a patent biker jacket and pencil skirt. Outrageously faux leather gives the collection a wild look.

One of Dulfer’s favourites in the collection is a specially designed red leopard print that can be worn either on its own or as a print on print that appears in three clothing items.

The collection has 24 items, ranging from rock ’n’ roll to head-to-toe glamour. You can put the different items into any combination you want and together they will make up a complete look.

The collection’s main colours are black, burgundy and gold. While gold adds a touch of luxury, burgundy gives the collection its warm autumn/winter feel.

Deep black adds edgy chic that gives an extra boost to the collection’s rock ’n’ roll feeling.

With the mix of comfort and glamour a key focus of the collection, the design team kept a close eye on the fit of each item.

“We want women to feel great in our clothes, without struggling with styling. That’s why all items can be combined to make up complete outfits both in terms of style and colour palette,” said Dulfer.

The Candy Party collection can be found at Mexx stores in Malta: Level 1, Bay Street Shopping Complex; Pjazza Tigné, Tigné Point, Sliema; Constitution Street, Mosta; and Republic Street, Valletta.

Mexx Malta will be holding a party on Saturday at Pjazza Tigné with Dutch treats and drinks, live music and anniversary promotions. Shoppers will be given a 15 per cent discount voucher redeemable until Saturday.
