The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority advises people to check the gas regulator installed in their gas appliances.

Ensure the gas regulators, especially those installed for a number of years, are still in good working condition. Remove and replace regulators that have passed their lifetime.

Moreover, talk to relatives and neighbours, especially older people, to ensure that their gas regulator is adequate and does not pose a serious risk.

The authority also advises economic operators to ensure that the regulators they place on the market satisfy two important requirements, namely that these:

• comply to EN 12864 and

• are suitable for use on LPG, the type of gas supplied in Malta.

The authority also reminds consumers that if they encounter any problem with the cylinders and/or valves, they should immediately contact the operator, whose contact details are required by law to be printed on the gas cylinders.

For any clarifications, contact the Technical Regulations Division of the MCCAA on 2395 2000.
