Nokia is trying to get out of the doldrums with a fine line-up of phones in the Lumia range, powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. The Lumia 625 is another model that goes to enrich this line.

Our model had the Windows Phone 8 operating system, a 4.7-inch 480x800 touch sensitive screen, a 1.2GHz dual core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a 5-megapixel camera, and 4G/Wi-Fi support.

The model’s build is good and handles well. It has a smooth design but feels a little chunky in the hands and it feels heavier than similar models. This shouldn’t be off-putting, for there is a 4.7-inch screen but the resolution is not high-end. There is real estate space but it’s not the best around.

The processor and the RAM are good for this lower-end model compared to other Lumias, and it handles tasks pretty well. This does not have a negative bearing on battery life, which is quite good.

The camera, though 5 megapixels and with LED flash, is average, both in terms of pictures and videos. Storage is also a bit on the low end with 8GB, but this is expandable with a microSD slot.

Calls and SMS were just fine, and internet browsing on Wi-Fi and 3G was quite nice on the large screen, but this also depends on the connection. The Lumia 625 supports 4G, the next-generation mobile communication technology which is being introduced in Malta by Vodafone right now. This means this model can take advantage of higher internet access speeds (in certain zones in Malta) right from now.

In conclusion, this is a good Windows Phone-based model for those who don’t want a handset with this operating system and don’t want to spend much.

The Nokia Lumia 625 was made available for review by Vodafone Malta.
