A runaway horse smashed the windscreen and dented the bonnet of a BMW car in Sta Venera this afternoon.

An eyewitness said the incident happened at about 3.10pm.

The BMW had just stopped at a junction near the Bank of Valletta head office when the horse with sulky suddenly appeared from the direction of Qormi and damaged the vehicle. No one was injured.

The animal freed itself of the sulky in Fleur-de-Lys and was reined in near the former Birkirkara bus terminus after it mounted the pavement, scaring pedestrians.

People on the scene said it was caught by two policemen.

Last month a horse bolted from the Marsa racecourse and damaged cars in Aldo Moro Road.

In September, a horse rider and a car driver were hospitalised after being injured when a horse bolted in Triq Bella Vista, San Ġwann, while five cars  were damaged when a karozzin horse bolted near Fort St Elmo.

In June, a karozzin horse bolted in Marsa, damaging a Ford Fiesta and a taxi.
