Gozo General Hospital’s Outpatients Department held a series of events on November 14 to mark World Diabetes Day. Throughout the morning, free Haemoglucose testing was held at the hospital foyer. This was well attended by hospital visitors, including the hospital’s senior management team.

In the evening, an educational seminar was held for the young children and adolescent with type 1 diabetes, and their parents, at Victoria local council. The event was addressed by Gozo General Hospital chief executive officer Dr Nadine Delicata, Outpatients Department Charge Nurse Rose Anne Buttigieg and deputy Charge Nurse Sylvmarie Gatt.

A lecture entitled ‘Diabetes and your kidneys’ by Prof. Emanuel Farrugia, head of the nephrology division at Mater Dei Hospital, and another lecture entitled ‘Hypoglycaemia and its management’ by Moira Grixti, a practice nurse specialised in diabetes, were also held.

The Duke Commercial premises lit up its facade in blue in solidarity with all people with diabetes.
