• When a flight is overbooked, the airline must first ask for volunteers who are willing not to travel or take an alternative flight in exchange of certain benefits.

• The benefits for volunteers are not regulated by any law but must be negotiated between the interested parties.

• Passengers who are left behind against their will, besides being offered an alternative flight or ticket refund, are also legally entitled to financial compensation.

• Passengers left at the airport to wait for another flight are entitled to care and assistance by the airline.
