Eleven-year-old Gaia Cauchi will be representing Malta at the next Junior Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Kiev, Ukraine, with the song The Start.

The Start was written and composed with the help of Muxu, Elton Zarb and Gillian Attard, and produced at Freetime Studios. Attard will be supervising Gaia’s vocal performance throughout the event.

During her week’s stay in Kiev, Gaia will be busy with several on-stage rehearsals, as well as with recording the Maltese Postcard section of the contest. The singer will also take part in the recording of the Junior Eurovision common song called Be Creative.

Gaia is no stranger to singing contests and talent shows, both in Malta and internationally, and has received several awards.

She placed first in the International Junior selection at the San Remo Junior Italian song contest, as a result also being honoured with the International Achievement Award at the 2013 Malta Music Awards.

The young singer has also taken part in the Italian TV talent show Italian Talent Lab, where once again she was crowned overall winner and achieved outstanding success in the Italian television show Ti lascio una canzone.

During her participation in the show, she sang alongside famous Italian singers, including Alex Britti, Alessandra Amoroso, Little Tony and world-renowned Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja.

More recently, she triumphed in Una stella sta nascendo with her song Noti u Kliem being adapted to Italian and recorded in Rome.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place on Saturday.
