Panamanian police destroyed 11.8 tons of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, heroin and chemical precursors.

The seized shipments were set on fire in a garbage dump on the outskirts of the capital, Panama City.

The destroyed drugs were seized by security forces, this being the fifth destruction this year.

According to Panamanian authorities, about 40 tons of drugs have been seized and destroyed so far this year, including this batch.

Central America and Mexico are major transit points for South American cocaine into the United States.
