Six University students and staff members have been officially appointed by the Bicycle Advocacy Group (BAG) as its cycling ambassadors at the institution.

During a meeting organised at the University’s Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, BAG PRO Jim Wightman encoursaged the ambassadors – Edward Mazzacano D’Amato, Holger Mitterer, James Mifsud, Mike Rosner, Martinique Vella Baldacchino and Michelle Vella Wood – to lead by example and motivate others to cycle, handing them an official BAG Cycling Ambassador T-shirt to be worn while cycling to University.

They could start by being points of reference for advice and information for anyone interested in cycling to and from the University’s Msida campus, and liaise with the surrounding local councils, Mr Wightman suggested. BAG president Saviour Sam Agius was also present during the event.

BAG’s vision is for the University to develop individually tailored cycling policies in collaboration with the ambassadors.

Raphael Mizzi, the University’s Green Travel Plan coordinator, said the ambassadors would support the University’s efforts to implement green travel and help reduce the number of cars driving to and from the University, thereby helping to reduce the institution’s CO2footprint.
