Labour MP Silvio Parnis has been appointed chairman of the government-appointed Consultative Council for the South of Malta.

The committee will fall under the Ministry for the Environment and Sustainable Development.

The Opposition has nominated Charlot Cassar as its representative while Nora Macelli will represent the Church.

The other members are Angela Abela, Kenneth Abela, Dr Jason Bonnici, Lino Bugeja, Graziella Cavlan, Sandro Chetcuti, Peter Cordina and Dr Josie Muscat.

The council will discuss problems of the region and propose solutions.
