Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said today that the Prime Minister should nominate a person from the Nationalist camp to serve as President, following on what Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had done.
Dr Busuttil said on Dissett that what took place almost five years ago was very well received and Prime Minister Muscat should follow Dr Gonzi's example. (President George Abela is a former deputy leader of the Labour Party and was a leadership contender)
Dr Busuttil said when questioned that he had somebody in mind who would be suitable for the presidency. He preferred not to disclose the name.
Dr Abela's five year term ends in April.
Dr Busuttil also said that the PN is still discussing amendments which the Opposition will move to the Civil Unions Bill.
