3a is the first locally founded accountancy firm in Malta to branch out overseas. Instead of becoming representatives of a foreign principal, which is the norm in Malta, they reversed the trend and are engaging affiliates who will be representing the 3a brand in their respective countries.

The first agreement was signed by 3a Global with 3a Cyprus.

“Being a member of the 3a Global network has provided our office in Cyprus with access to markets and clients worldwide that recognise the value of quality services,” George Georgiou, director of 3a Cyprus, said.

3a was formed in 2008 by a small team of professionals led by Neville Cutajar. It now has high-ranking local partners, including Misco directors Lawrence Zammit and Joseph FX Zahra and consultant Franco Azzopardi.

HSBC launches card currency option

HSBC Merchant Services has launched Dynamic Currency Conversion which allows international cardholders the choice to pay for goods and services in either their home currency or in euro via the Point of Sale (POS) terminals.

The service can be used by holders of international Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards.

While travelling in a foreign country, customers must normally wait for their monthly statement to find out the relevant rate of exchange and amount charged when making transactions. With DCC, international cardholders now have the ability to choose whether to pay in the local currency or in the currency of their card, based on the daily rate from Reuters.

The service will initially be available in eight different currencies including sterling, dollars and rubles.

New auditing qualification launched by LEAD

A new award in internal auditing, the only qualification for internal auditors available locally, is being organised by LEAD Training Services, starting in February 2014.

Individuals can apply for a grant covering 100 per cent of the cost via the TSSA Scheme which is currently open until December 2013, administered by the Employment and Training Corporation.

An internationally acclaimed speaker and internal auditing contributor, Marinus De Pooter from the Netherlands, will deliver the first module in governance, risk, compliance and internal auditing. The other four modules are spread out until April, 2014.

During the first quarter of 2014, LEAD Training Services are holding two more short courses – a 40-hour course in Advanced Tax and VAT Matters and 39-hour course in Capital and Risk Management – Financial Services.
