A court case filed in 1970 over a dispute regarding payment for animal feed was concluded in court today.

The case was originally filed by Ignazio Gatt on behalf of Joseph Gatt Ltd against Zakkarija Calleja.

Gatt demanded payment of £12,169.16 for consignments of animal feed which he had delivered to Calleja and which Calleja had accepted between February 1969 and February 1970.

Calleja objected, blaming the quality of the consignments, particularly the concentrate, for the death of a number of animals.

The court observed that this case had been delayed for various reasons, including the fact that one of the parties had taken years to pay the former legal counsel. The court was also disturbed by the behaviour in court of witnesses Carmel Gatt and Sperenza Gatt.

There had also been disagreements over the views of the court expert.

The court found that the cause of death of a number of animals could not be directly attributed to the feed

The court therefore ordered Calleja to pay €24,930.49 to Gatt with interest starting to apply from today.
