The 65th anniversary of one of the worst sea tragedies involving Gozitans was marked with a ceremony last Sunday. A Mass was held on board the Gozo Channel ferry MV Gaudos, celebrated by Fr Michael Xuereb and Mgr Joe Vella Gauci. As a sign of respect, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo, relatives and friends threw flowers into the sea near Ħondoq ir-Rummien Bay. The incident happened on October 30, 1948, when, in spite of bad weather, 27 people tried to cross from Marfa to Gozo in a luzzu. However, the boat overturned and only four passengers survived.
