Malta 9
Belarus 3
(2-2, 1-0, 3-0, 3-1)

Malta opened their commitments in the Euro 2014 Qualification Round III with a 9-3 victory over Belarus in Portugal, yesterday.

Karl Izzo’s team put up a solid display with goalkeeper Alan Borg Cole in fine form as the Malta no.1 pulled off a string of fine interventions, including an early penalty save.

During the opening two quarters, the Maltese were rather erratic in their finishing but they stepped up their game by several notches in the third session when they scored three goals without reply to open a 6-2 lead.

Malta kept up the rhythm in the last session as Izzo utilised all the players in the squad

Steve Camilleri and Matthew Zammit were Malta’s leading scorers with three goals with the other goals coming from Niki Lanzon (2) and Dino Zammit.

Today, Malta will face Georgia in the morning session before taking on Slovakia later in the evening.
