White Hart 1
Qormi 5

An interesting first half saw Qormi lead by the odd goal in three.

In the seventh minute, Liam Azzopardi met a cross from the right and converted to put White Hart 1-0 up.

Qormi reacted, mounting a period of territorial pressure on White Hart’s rearguard which held out and relied on counter-attacks.

In the 19th minute Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke which Kyle Micallef failed to convert as Robert Vassallo Agius palmed the ball away, diving to his right.

A minute later Qormi drew level when a shot was deflected by a defender sending White Hart’s custodian the wrong way.

In the 26th minute, Thomas Degiovanni latched on to a pass from the right and flicked the ball into the net off the crossbar to put Qormi 2-1 ahead.

Jonathan Aquilina scored a beauty in the 40th minute when he met a cross from the right and blasted it high into the net.

Five minutes later, Vassallo Agius stopped Qormi going further ahead and, at the other end, Daniel Seifert nearly pulled one back three minutes later.

Qormi notched their fourth goal in the 60th minute when Keith Calleja netted after receiving a pass from Micallef.

Five minutes later, Liam Azzo-pardi turned a Degiovanni cross into his own net as Qormi eased into the Challenge Cup semi finals.

Hotsticks 2
Young Stars 3

Young Stars won a penalty corner in the third minute and Mark Camilleri shot them into an early lead.

Tight marking in midfield resulted in few scoring chances but Hotsticks started to exert pressure and created a couple of half-chances but to no avail.

In the 13th minute, Young Stars keeper James Mizzi kept his goal intact following a penalty corner action but five minutes later Mark Camilleri scored his and Young Stars’ second goal from another penalty corner action.

Hotsticks hit back strongly. On 21 minutes, Ludolf Rasterhoff fired wide from a good position.

The game swung from end to end with Jamie Mifsud hitting a post for Young Stars a minute later.

Further exchanges by both teams did not bear fruit and the half-time whistle blew with Young Stars enjoying a 2-0 lead.

After another period of close cup-tie hockey Hotsticks pulled one back in the 46th minute when Simon Baldacchino scored with a tremendous drive from the top of the D.

Six minutes later, Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke but Rasterhoff was denied by Mizzi.

This was the turning point of the match as four minutes later, Camilleri completed his hat-trick from a penalty corner action.

Hotsticks fought back, scoring a second when Julian Zahra netted in the 66th minute.

But the Young Stars hung on to claim a hard-fought victory that sent them through to the Challenge Cup semi finals.

Umpires: Robert Aquilina, Paul Brincat.
