The President’s wife Margaret Abela’s support towards L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank is in full swing, as she has been distributing piggy banks around schools in Malta and Gozo.

Commemorating its 10th anniversary, L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign sees well over 5,000 piggy banks distributed in schools and other places.

“The driving force behind L-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign are the children themselves,” said Joyce Tabone, manager, media and community relations, BOV, during a visit to Helen Keller school in Qrendi.

“This campaign truly encapsulates the spirit of L-Istrina. It is both a privilege and a humbling experience to see young children getting personally involved to help vulnerable members of society,” Ms Tabone added.

Mrs Abela congratulated the children and their teachers who organise several initiatives during the year in a bid to raise funds.

“From a very young age, children participating in this campaign learn how to put aside a little pocket money to make a big difference in other people’s lives,” Mrs Abela said.

Over the past nine years, Bank of Valletta donated over €750,000 towards L-Istrina campaign, with the amount increasing every year since its inception.

The final amount collected, along with a donation from the bank, will be presented during the live broadcast of this year’s L-Istrina on December 26.
