The Gozo Philatelic Society recently held its annual exhibition at the Gozo Ministry in Victoria.

The judging panel awarded Anthony Grech the challenge trophy for best exhibit, entitled St Paul & Pope John Paul, in the Traditional Open class. Postmen’s Handstamps won the Postal History class while Queen Elizabeth II won the Social Philately class.

Five other awardees were Jesmond Borg, Mario Casingena, Jacqueline Curmi, Vincent Grech and Anton Said.

Other exhibits were entitled Grace Kelly, Beautiful Creatures, Chev E.V. Cremona, Unusual Materials, British Royalty and Public Transport.

Natalia Said was deemed the best junior exhibitor, with her Migrants’ Postcards from Australia exhibit.

Also on show was an interesting assortment of postal stationery, issued in Malta over a century ago and donated by Wolfgang Juncker, a member of the Germany Philatelic Society.

Members of the Malta Philatelic Society and the UK-based Malta Study Circle, who visited the event, commented favourably on the exhibits.

Maltapost was the main sponsor for the second year running; it exhibited a range of products and offered free first day cover subscriptions and album collections.
