Major Claudio Terribile was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, becoming the first Gozitan to be promoted to what is considered the third highest attainable rank in the Armed Forces of Malta.
The promotion was approved by Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Manuel Mallia.
Lt Col Terribile was educated at the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary and the New Lyceum, Victoria. He joined the AFM in February 1989 as an officer cadet and completed an Allievi Ufficiali di Complemento (AUC) course at the Italian Army Infantry School in Cesano, Italy.
In 1990 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the AFM’s Regular Force.
In 1993 he completed the Standard Military Commissioning Course at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, where he was awarded the Nigeria Trophy for academic achievement. He also qualified as a parachutist after completing a basic parachute course, run by the British Army.
Promoted to Captain in 1996, Terribile subsequently held the appointment of Officer Commanding, Support Company 1st Regiment.
In 2002, after being promoted to Major, he completed the Advanced Infantry Officers’ Course at Fort Benning, the US.
He has also held the positions of Officer Commanding, Gozo Company, 1st Regiment, and Officer Commanding, G Command, Maritime Squadron.
Terribile holds a diploma in commerce from the University and is due to graduate with a Bachelor in Commerce from the University next month.
He is married to Marlene née Xerri and has two sons, Gianluca and Michele.
