The €2.7 million EU-funded scholarship for students doing a Masters has been extended with an additional investment of €800,000 following a successful uptake.
The extension to the Master It scholarships was announced by Education Minister Evarist Bartolo and the Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds, Ian Borg.
In the first call, 503 applications were received and 330 scholarships were awarded.
Mr Bartolo said he was pleased to see a good mix of ages being given scholarships. He also noted that a variety of studies had been taken up, from ICT to the environment and life sciences.
Dr Borg said the decision to extend the EU-funded initiative brought the total amount invested to €3.5 million. He said that this showed the Government’s commitment to make the best use of EU funds, allocating money to crucial sectors of the economy such as education.
