The domestic triathlon season came to an end recently but the athletes’ enthusiasm to keep racing has not waned.

In view of this, the Malta Triathlon Federation (MTF) has teamed up with SmartCity Malta to organise an off-season duathlon on November 10.

Participants will start off with a 5km run followed by an 18km cycle and concluding with a 2.5km run.

The course, which is slightly technical and undulating, will be in and around the SmartCity Malta headquarters in Kalkara.

Relay teams, consisting of a runner and a cyclist, are being encouraged to sign up for this race.

Youth races will also be held on the same route but over shorter distances. This event, part of the Malta Youth Triathlon Academy’s programme, is open to children and youths aged six to 16.

“Triathlon and multi-sports have really grown in popularity and while the 2013 calendar is officially over and we are already gearing up for the forthcoming season, we feel the need to keep organising multi-sport events,” Cyprian Dalli, the MTF president, said in a statement.

“The objective of this event is to give triathletes the opportunity to remain in shape as well as to encourage other newcomers to the sport, whether undertaking the full distance or as part of a relay team.

“We are indeed grateful to SmartCity Malta who are supporting this event and assisting us with logistics on the day.”

The race headquarters will be located in SmartCity’s Laguna Walk, a unique destination for families to spend quality time on a promenade.

“As an international work-play-live business township concept, with localised practices, SmartCity Malta’s support to the Malta Triathlon Federation is in line with its commitment to promoting a healthy work-life balance,” Anthony Tabone, CEO of SmartCity Malta, said.

“The project’s vision mingles work and employment with lifestyle and leisure, thereby ensuring that both office workers and visitors at SmartCity Malta maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle”.
