The process for the appointment of a Commissioner for Education has been put in motion, the Ombudsman said this morning.

In a statement, the Ombudsman said the Commissioner will replace the University Ombudsman, a post being abolished from tomorrow in terms of the Education Act.

Until the Commissioner is appointed, the Ombudsman has appointed outgoing university ombudsman Prof. Charles Farrugia in a consultative capacity.

The ombudsman said Prof. Farrugia’s expertise was essential to the effectiveness of the investigation of complaints relating to the education sector.

Interested persons are advised that complaints or submissions formerly sent for the Consideration of the University Ombudsman, may be forwarded directly to the Parliamentary Ombudsman at Office of the Ombudsman 11, St Paul’s Street, Valletta, e-mail: office@ombudsman.org.mt .
