The General Workers’ Union has registered a dispute with Arriva Malta over its winter schedule.

The union said yesterday the bus company wanted to impose a schedule that would cause inconvenience to employees, especially drivers.

According to the new rosters, workers would not be paid for all the hours they were required to be at their place of work. Unpaid hours were being considered as a break that could be divided into several periods, the union added. It said it would be meeting the director of industrial relations, Noel Vella, on the matter today.

Arriva made no mention of the dispute in a statement issued earlier to announce it would switch to its winter timetable on Sunday as part of a contractual twice-yearly change in its operations.

New timetable leaflets will be available from Arriva ticket booths and online at www.arriva.com.mt/wintertime.
