Jermain Defoe matched Martin Chivers’ all-time record of 22 European goals for Tottenham as his side eased to a 2-0 win over Moldovan side Sheriff in UEFA Europa League Group K yesterday.
Defoe hit a heavily deflected 75th-minute effort past home keeper Vjekoslav Tomic to equal Chivers’ mark and seal victory for Tottenham, who had gone ahead on 12 minutes through captain Jan Vertonghen.
